What to expect from Agent?

Nov 7, 2009

Perhaps the quietest of announcements from the Sony’s 2009 E3 conference was also the most significant. Rockstar Games will be making a new IP exclusively for the PS3, whats more Rockstar’s flagship studio, Rockstar North answering the call. According to one of the Houser brothers, the IP will be given production values as much as any Rockstar game and even hopes to make something as big as GTA IV.

So how can Rockstar make a new game in the brink of Cold War while at the same time separate itself from GTA and other games of its portfolio? Well, here is my vision of Agent.

The 1970 Cold War espionage action provides one of the most interesting backdrop in gaming. Sure MGS have sort of done it but they kinda used the backdrop not much as a background. While Rockstar games makes huge emphasis on their backdrop, you can feel it throughout the game. I expect alot of detective work, trailing, gathering intelligence. But my favorite as you might know: Countering intelligence:- Tricking the Soviet agents from gathering intel, or…tricking them to gather the wrong intel! I really think the game will and can take morale into a whole new level, in fact I hope the game will be based mostly on the decisions you make; not just the sake of America or the world, but more importantly loosing the ones you love. As for the game itself, I hope its not an open world game as it wouldn’t make great level of detail as larger levels have, tight levels which have a sense of depth but really detailed. As for the gunfights, Agent can do one thing that can distinguish itself from turning into Max Payne 3: High level encounters. What i am saying is instead of the game throwing you 10 enemies at once where you simply take cover, shoot and move on, the game can throw just 2 or 3 enemies at a battle, but these enemies will have have really capable AI systems and since there will be no or less NPCs at the moment. The fights will be less in number, but more chaotic, memorable and tricky.

As for Locales, wouldn’t mind traveling between US and USSR or some other nation that might play a role somehow in the game.

Counter-intelligence: I love to talk more about it, Knowing Rockstar, they put tremendous attention to detail on what they try to achieve. I have a few course on military intelligence operations, and i noticed the keyword ‘counter-intelligence’. This has a very deep meaning to it. It, means in simplest of terms, mind-games….brutal mind games to counter the opposition on procuring vital info by playing with the double agent’s mind. Now you don’t see this in videogames, expect something brutal, psychological mind games from our Agent!
